Eve's cooking disaster theater: the vegan loaf generator

I posted a few new posts over at the food and fitness blog to which I contribute. It's slowed down a bit, at least for me, in the last week due to being sick or lazy. Maggie and Sarah posted recipes that I covet, and Maggie made educational posts on nutrition not too long ago.

As I outlined in my latest post there, I intended to try the vegan loaf generator this weekend, so that was today's project. The recipe I put together turned out to be a loaf that resembles stuffing. Ingredients chosen: split peas, quinoa, carrots, celery, onion, sage, rosemary, thyme, savory, potato flour, celery salt, vegetable broth, and sunflower seeds.

After testing it out, I think it needs a saltier flavor, would be improved with garlic, could have used more moisture before baking - but not bad at all. I'll try a new recipe next time, but I might still bring this to my family's Christmas celebrations as a twist on an old favorite.

I just put down The Artful Edit. It's useful in its own way, though it is not the powerful editing resource I thought it would be when I picked it up at Half Price Books. The main accomplishment of author Susan Bell is that I have put her prime example of artful editing, The Great Gatsby, at the top of my reading list.

Tis the season to be ambivalent

Man. I kind of want to do Christmas cards this year, but I like to hand-make things and I don't know if I'll have the devotion to get through it in a timely fashion. But it's fun! However, I accidentally left one of my friends out making cards twice this past year, once after a pointed request for a card, and she dialed back talking to me like crazy after the second time. Cards should not be so stressful! Also, I should not be such a bad friend.

I guess I will do cards this year again. If I start to run out of time or feel like I'm never going to finish, I may just buy a box of cards from somewhere and deface them as I see fit. If you want a card, leave a comment; comments are screened.
